AAA Western and Central New York (AAA WCNY) has officially partnered with American Cruise Lines (ACL) as demand for cruising increases. The arrival of cruise ships in Western and Central New York, for the first time in decades, caught the attention of many travelers this spring, creating an opportunity for the partnership.

“AAA and American Cruise Lines are a natural fit because both organizations are committed to delivering exceptional customer service, high-quality travel experiences, and trusted expertise,” explained AAA WCNY Director of Travel Josie Nicotra. “At AAA, we are committed to connecting our members with trusted travel partners that deliver exceptional experiences and outstanding value. Our preferred partnership with American Cruise Lines strengthens our ability to offer unique and enriching journeys throughout the United States, and even here at home, while providing the personalized service and quality our members expect.”

ACL features over 50 itineraries visiting 35 states, with a strong focus on small-ship cruising and immersive domestic experiences.
Their new small ship, American Patriot, put ACL on the map with local travelers when it became the center of attention in ports like Oswego, Rochester, and Buffalo in May. The U.S.-flagged cruise ship holds about 130 passengers and is complete with a sun deck, private balconies, and a lounge area with entertainment, but you won’t find a pool or a casino like a typical ocean cruise liner.

Instead, travelers on the Great Lakes enjoy history lessons and cultural immersion amid a more refined experience with all-inclusive gourmet cuisine and cocktails in an intimate atmosphere focused on personalized service.

Most of ACL’s Great Lakes options sold out for 2026, while the company says reservations on the Mississippi River typically fill up before new ships can even make their debut.

The trends relate directly to the growing popularity of the cruise ship industry. This year, AAA projects 21.7 million Americans will go on ocean cruises after 20.7 million cruised in 2025. AAA is forecasting that the year-over-year increase will be an 8.4% jump from 2024 to 2025 and a 4.5% bounce from 2025 to 2026.

“Cruising offers something for everyone, and AAA’s projections reflect the growing demand for cruises,” said Josie Nicotra, Director of Travel at AAA Western and Central New York. “From exploring Alaska or the Caribbean on ocean cruise liners to immersing yourself in Europe on a river cruise or experiencing waterways here in the U.S., cruising offers variety, convenience, and lifelong memories.”

As part of the partnership, AAA WCNY Travel Advisors toured ACL’s American Patriot when it was docked in Buffalo this summer allowing them to experience the ship firsthand, so they can deliver personalized cruise options for clients with exclusive AAA member benefits.
