Food insecurity is a significant challenge that affects millions of families across the nation. When school is out for the summer, many children lose access to the nutritious meals provided by school programs. This heart-wrenching reality is moving AAA to take action with the AAA Hunger Initiative in partnership with Feeding America®.

During the month of July, we are collecting non-perishable food and monetary donations at all AAA branches in Western and Central New York. Simply stop by to donate cash or cans! All donations, including AAA’s corporate pledge, will go directly to local food banks in our region through a partnership with FeedMore WNY, Foodlink in Rochester, and the Food Bank of Central New York.

Donations will be accepted through July 31. Help us reach our goal of 1,000 pounds of food and $2,000 cash, which is in addition to AAA’s corporate pledge.

AAA kicked off this effort with a Week of Impact at the end of June, where we took part in volunteer opportunities with the local food banks.

On June 23, at the Foodlink Distribution Center in Rochester, the AAA team with 11 volunteers filled 70 boxes with approximately 1,500 pounds of food – translating into 1,250 meals distributed across Foodlink’s 10-county network encompassing the Greater Rochester area and Finger Lakes region.

On the same day, Syracuse region AAA volunteers filled 130 boxes of produce with approximately 2,600 pounds of food, translating into 1,267 meals distributed across Food Bank of Central New York’s network to those in need.

On June 26, 15 AAA volunteers got to work at FeedMore WNY creating 15-pound boxes of food for families in need. AAA completed six pallets with 56 boxes on each pallet - that’s 336 boxes of food with a weight of 5,040 pounds. Most importantly, it’s nourishment for 336 families.

We are excited about the potential of this partnership with Feeding America® and the difference it can make in the lives of people in our communities. With your help, we can expand our reach and provide better support to people in need and raise awareness about the ongoing challenge of food insecurity.

Each act, no matter how small, contributes to a larger mission of ending hunger and promoting community well-being. Just one dollar helps provide at least 10 meals secured by Feeding America® on behalf of local partner food banks.
